Aswan Day Tour.
Explore the Island of Philae.
Starting from $50 per person
The tour starts with a visit to the incredible modern engineering marvel, the High Dam. The dam, which is more than 360 feet high, supplies Egypt and Sudan with irrigation and hydroelectric power by holding back Lake Nasser's waters. Hikers can enjoy breath-taking vistas that spread as far as Sudan from the top of the dam. Visitors will see how the dam affected the local economy and inhabitants while changing the environment during a 16-year period. It is still among the biggest dams ever built, having been built in the 20th century utilizing technology adapted from ancient Egypt. After that, visitors will take a short boat excursion to the gorgeous Philae Temple on the scenic island of Agilkia. The elaborate temple complex honoring the goddess Isis dates back to the 4th century BC and was a significant ancient pilgrimage site. Visitors will be astounded by the soaring columns and detailed sculptures that border the pathways and fill the porticoes upon disembarking. Egyptian mythology is brought to life through the carvings that depict rulers and gods. The serene Nile backdrop provides for stunning pictures and a trip down memory lane. The Unfinished Obelisk, one of the more unusual locations, is the last stop. Situated in the northern section of the Aswan quarries, this half built historical monument provides insights into the initial crafting of obelisks more than 3,000 years ago. Standing almost 130 feet tall if completed, the pink granite block still has stone tools and artisan indentations on it. Visitors will discover why this was a technical fiasco and possibly why it was shelved in the middle of building. History and science enthusiasts will be enthralled by the mysteries surrounding the creation of the enormous Egyptian architecture and sculpture.
